So, on Friday night, we got Lowe with the main man… Jez Lowe. I know we like to have humour in these blogzz, but this may get gushy. What a club! For a start, Stuart does an amazing job with the sound. I mean, they say you can’t polish a turd, but we were like a big, shiny, glittery shart, tied up in a silk bow by the time he had done with our soundcheck. (C’mon, we were supporting Jez Lowe, a little shart is surely appropriate here?!)
As always, we got a lovely, warm, introduction from hip-op legend Bob Chiswick. It was cosmic to see some old faces (well, it is a folk club, after all) but, like a meeting at the Plastic Surgery Self Help Group… There were a lot of new faces, too.
The audience were in fantastic spirit (like, better than brandy) and even better voice. We got laughs, sure, but we also got groans, oh how we feed on the groans from our puns!
All in all, we absolutely adore Doncaster Roots Club and couldn’t think of anywhere we would rather be on a Friday night. If you get the chance to go watch something there, please do. They get on some amazing headline acts… The support can be a bit dodgy, though ;)
