We can think of worse things to be doing on a Saturday night than singing in a church in Wath-Upon-Dearne:
> Bathing the cat
> Taking the goldfish for a walk
> Puppy training - for gerbils
> Other pet related activities
> Being sucked into a black hole
> Falling into a bottomless pit, without any lunch or snacks
To name but a few! So, we left the cat in the bath, took the lead off the goldfish, and headed out to support Bob Chiswick and Macmillan cancer support.
We pulled up besides a beautiful church. Our number one fan’s car was already parked up (retirement is obviously hitting Beth’s mum very hard). We grabbed all our gear out of the car, told the gerbil to “Sit… Staaaay… Good boy!” And we headed inside to meet the Jude (Beth’s mum, number one fan, bored retiree).
The church looked fab! Macmillian had gone all out with banners, stalls, cakes and all. Interestingly, no sign of le Jude, obviously wandering the streets of Wath, asking if anyone had seen Kootch, getting funny looks and odd proposals left right and centre.
On a more serious note. What a beautiful night it was. A whole host of very talented floor singers, some dodgy support and a beautiful headlining act. Bob is a real wordsmith, every song accompanied with a story, regaled with tales of fact and fiction and then lulled into soft harmonies and heartfelt re-tellings.
Having watched Trials of Cato some months back, they got very excited about the fact that they had new merchandise of T-Shirts, and they felt they had ‘made it’ due to this fact. So, we decided that we could save ourselves the 8 years of toil and just print our own! See model #1 below:
Anyway, on to what you really want to know: the night raised £360 for Macmillan! Andy really does set up a truly warm and lovely charity folk club, and Raising the Rafters is well worth your time to pop in, BYOB and donate whatever spare change you have to the charity of the month.
We will be seeing Wath-Upon-Dearn again as soon as we can.
Love, harmonies and cwtch,
Kootch x
