Morley Main Colliery Memorial Service

  • The Miners Arms Pub Albert Road Leeds, England, LS27 8LG United Kingdom (map)

And now for something completely different.

Beth will be venturing off on her own, back to her home town of Morley. It’s Beth. Just Beth. Try to withhold your disappointment.

At 11am on Friday 7th October there will be a memorial service held outside the Miners Arms Pub, Albert Road, Morley LS27 8LG - to commemorate 150 years since the Morley Main explosion that killed 34 men and boys, and wiped out a working generation of men in this small community.

Keith Marsden - beloved Morley lad, wrote a haunting song ‘Morley Main’, written from the point of view of one of the widows left behind.

The song also bagged Beth the Fred Jordan, Unaccompanied Singer of the Year award, at Saltburn Folk Festival in 2014 - so come see what the fuss all about!
